Capital Bank has a relatively short but successful story to tell with our history. But now, as a part of the First Horizon family of companies, we are connected to one of the region’s most respected financial institutions with a history that spans more than 150 years.
Capital Bank began banking operations on July 16, 2010. In September of that same year, we quickly grew to acquire TIB Financial Corp., a publicly held financial services company with total assets of approximately $1.7 billion and 28 branches operating under the name TIB Bank in the Florida Keys, South Miami-Dade County and southwest Florida.
Four months later, on January 28, 2011, Capital Bank Financial Corp. bought Capital Bank Corporation, a publicly held financial services company with approximately $1.7 billion in assets and 32 branches operating under the name Capital Bank in central and western North Carolina.Later in July, Capital Bank Financial Corp. consolidated all of its banking operations under the Capital Bank brand and completed a full systems integration.
In September, Capital Bank Financial Corp. acquired Green Bankshares, Inc., a publicly held financial services company with total assets of approximately $2.3 billion and operating 65 branches under the name GreenBank in Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina.
GreenBank transitioned to the Capital Bank brand in February 2012.
In October, Capital Bank Financial Corp. obtained Southern Community Bank with $1.5 billion in assets and 22 branches in Winston Salem, the Piedmont Triad and other NC markets.
In October, Capital Bank acquired CommunityOne, with $2.4 billion in assets and 45 branches throughout central, southern and western North Carolina, and loan production offices in Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
CommunityOne Bank transitioned to the Capital Bank brand in the February 2017.
On November 17, 2017, Capital Bank merged with First Tennessee Bank and became a member of the First Horizon family of companies. Together, Capital Bank and First Tennessee Bank represent the fourth largest regional bank in the Southeast.
